A Nebraska entrepreneur once looked at me and said something I’ll never forget: “Isaiah, I feel guilty for wanting more.” He loved his work, loved his community, loved the purpose behind his business  but he feared that ambition meant arrogance. That growth meant ego. That desire meant greed. So he kept shrinking himself even though God had placed something powerful inside him.

We sat together for a long time as he explained how he felt torn between humility and calling. I told him the truth gently: wanting to grow isn’t prideful. Resisting a calling is. Nebraska culture teaches people to be modest, grounded, generous  and those qualities are beautiful. But sometimes humility gets twisted into smallness. God never asked him to hide.

As we worked together, he slowly stood taller. Not with ego  with clarity. He stopped apologizing for the vision God had given him. He stopped downplaying his abilities. He stopped making himself small to make others comfortable. And the more he stepped into his calling, the more opportunities began to open. His business grew. His confidence grew. His faith deepened.

He told me months later, “I finally feel like the man God intended me to be.” That’s what alignment does. It turns hesitation into purpose. Fear into direction. Silence into leadership.

Nebraska doesn’t need entrepreneurs who shrink. It needs leaders who stand confidently in the calling God placed on their lives.

If you’ve been holding back the strength of your calling, I’d be honored to help you step into it fully and without apology.
